About Alex
So yes, what to write?
I am in my 40's and now married to my partner of 28 years. We currently own and run a yoga retreat business in south west France called LES PASSEROSES. We love what we do but only work at that between May and mid September. Food is one of the most important things on any yoga retreat - bringing everyone together outside of the yoga classes to be nourished. As we don't teach yoga, we spend our time catering and looking after our lovely groups. I am a trained chef having worked for years in restaurants in Manchester and Cheshire, and Adrian has had many roles including actor, artist and latterly creative direction in PR.
The food we serve at Les Passeroses is vegetarian or vegan - standard for yoga retreats and holidays. It's is nourishing but easier to digest, which is a benefit when students are probably going from doing 2-3 hours of yoga per week to the same amount per day! Since the beginning over a decade ago, guests have been asking us for recipes or a cookery book. Finally we got around to finishing it and are very excited to have just published it as an eBook! You can have a flick through it or buy on Blurb HERE
We started going to Spain properly (after several wonderful trips over the year to Barcelona and Madrid) only about 7 years ago. We began falling in love with the south - as many do travellers do - from tasting Seville, white villages, staggering landscapes, coastal towns and the incomparable Alhambra Palace, in a whistle-stop tour of a few weeks. We came back in short order to explore more and found a charming town on the Costa Tropical called La Herradura - the horseshoe, from the shape of the bay. One thing led to another and 3 years later we had bought a small house in the old town, which is now our base in the winter.
We have plenty of time to find all sorts of new things, but our main passion is for Spanish food and wine. Particularly finding out more about the treasures of Andalucia; specifically the Granada region our little town is in and the Malaga region which starts a few kilometers away. Granadian red wines are fast becoming a passion of mine and I am keen to know more and raise their profile!
I hope you enjoy my writing, it will be a journey for me as much as I hope it will be for you. To keep me going I would really appreciate you commenting on the blog or asking questions, and letting other people know about Spain On a Plate.
*I have written a more detailed piece about how I fell in love with Spain which you can read HERE
Muchas gracias y salud!
